(((panoply))) is a TITLE Issue 008 project, directed and styled by Shannon Renner, with photography by Danny Creelman, graphics by Macy Seiter. Modeling by Shannon Walsh.

“Collecting things is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off …” maybe Brendon Urie said something like that once. Dandelion-colored Crayons, marbles of every dimension possible and of course, there’s room for all the dried flowers ever sent by former lovers. Banal things … mints saved from the theater a few towns over interspersed with those Care Bear Band-Aids from 2008, all sitting inside the small sterling chest a grandmother passed down many years ago. Some fine jewelry might have been the more “proper” treasure to store away in there, but the collecting compulsion knows no real social rules. 

To peek inside someone’s “sterling chest” is to glean a greater understanding of who they are, how they interact with the world and what they deem to be true treasure. Any avid and conscious panoplist will leap at the chance to explain their little universe built upon IKEA shelves. Some may be more reserved, but there is always that glow of excitement to feel more understood, even if it is through observing their stash in passing. To bear one’s insides on their exterior is to come just a bit closer to being known — one of the most exclusively human drives. Come bask in the absurdity of these collections; the treasures might treat you to a glimpse of humanity’s most curious corner.
